Aris Thessaloniki of Greece
striker, Aide Brown Ideye has joined in the ongoing debate about alleged
corruption that rocked the selection of players for Nigeria’s squad to Brazil
2014 World Cup by promising to write a book about the saga before he retires
from the game, megasportsarena.com reports.
In
what becomes his second public statement on the alleged bribery saga that was
first raised by Chinedu Obasi, then backed by Taye Ismaila Taiwo and Imoh
Ezekiel, Ideye hinted that he was in the know about a lot of shady dealings and
undercurrents that went into the choice of players to don Nigeria’s jersey at
Brazil 2014.
Incidentally,
Ideye had earlier raised a different angle to the saga, when he disclosed that
he was dropped from the squad that reached the round of 16 in Brazil simply
because he fell out with his agent, who at that time was sad to have a strong
relationship with the head coach.
The
head coach at that time was late Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, who many observers
have already absolved of any blame in the money-induced selection of players,
but many fingers of accusation are variously pointing at his assistants and top
officials of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
However,
all the players who opened the can of worms did not mention any name as culprit
in their allegations of corruption rocking the Eagles’ selection process
heading to Brazil 2014, nor have any of those who keep festering the hornets’
nest since then also been specific in their accusations.
While Ideye had also not
categorically mention the agent who prevailed on the technical crew to delist
him from the squad to The Samba Nation, and did not even specifically name
Keshi as the coach that was prevailed on to drop him back then, he has hinted
that he will eventually spill all the beans in a book.
Ideye
took to social media to confirm his intention, as he affirmed that he will
document all the dirty dealings and everything that went on back then, as he
posted: “Before I retire, I will write a book and pour everything out.”
