Super
Eagles star Kenneth Omeruo has been ranked the top overall player in one key
defensive stat at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
According
to football statistics website Whoscored.com, the
Chelsea central defender racked up the most interceptions, 13 in total, to
place first along with OGC Nice's Algeria fullback Youcef Atal, prior to the
bronze medal match.
With the
exception of the 2-0 loss to Madagascar in the group stage, Omeruo started and
went the distance in all the matches played by the Super Eagles in Egypt.
He racked
up three interceptions vs Guinea, and had two each against Cameroon and
Algeria, while he was the top interceptor against South Africa with 6.
With two
more interceptions in the 1-0 win vs Tunisia in the third pace playoff, Omeruo
is now the outright leader in interceptions made ahead of tomorrow's AFCON
final between Senegal and Algeria.
The 2013
Africa Cup of Nations-winning defender was the top rated player (7.44) by
Whoscored in the bronze medal match.
