Tottenham hotspur have been given a boost ahead of Tuesday’s
Champions League quarter-final clash with Manchester City, with Fernando
Llorente returning to training on the eve of the first leg at the new Tottenham
Hotspur Stadium.
The 34-year-old missed Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Crystal
Palace due to concussion but could find himself back in the squad now he’s been
passed fit.
Llorente has scored
and created 11 goals in 25 games in all competitions this season, averaging a
goal or assist every 69 minutes. The Spanish international had featured in 11
consecutive Premier League outings before his injury, scoring one goal and making
three assists, and could be an important player from the bench against City.
He scored from the
bench in the first leg of Tottenham’s last-16 win over Borussia Dortmund and
could be the perfect antithesis to Pep Guardiola’s side due to his aerial
threat. Llorente has won 83% of his aerial duels in the Champions League,
contributing a goal every 20 minutes on average.
Mauricio
Pochettino’s side haven’t been in the best form since their last European
outing with two defeats from their last three, but they are coming off the back
of a win against Palace in their new stadium which could serve as a motivator
to putt in another performance.
