NFF, LMC Uphold Clubs’ Decision To End NPFL Season.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and League Management Company (LMC) have upheld the decision to end the 2019/20 Nigeria Professional Football League season. Reports emerged on Tuesday that NPFL clubs have voted unanimously to end the season which was suspended in March due to the spread of coronavirus pandemic. The NFF met with officials of the LMC as well as the 20 clubs in the NPFL in Abuja on Wednesday to take a final decision on the issue. 18 clubs voted for the Points per Game (PPG) rule to determine the clubs that will represent the country in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup. Enugu Rangers and Akwa United opposed the rule. League leaders Plateau United and second-placed Enyimba will play in the CAF Champions League, while Rivers United, who placed third, will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup. Aiteo Cup holders Kano Pillars will join Rivers United in the CAF Confederation. There will also be no relegation or promotion.

Arsenal Sign David Luiz From Chelsea

Arsenal have completed the signing of Brazil defender David Luiz from Chelsea in an £8m deal. Luiz, 32, joins the Gunners on a two-year contract, with the deal following Arsenal's £25m deadline day purchase of Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, 22. Arsenal manager Unai Emery said Luiz brings "huge experience" and "adds to our defensive strength". Luiz takes Emery's summer spending over £130m after deals for Nicolas Pepe, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli. The Gunners are set to recoup around £34m for winger Alex Iwobi as he is set to complete a deadline day move to Everton and they have also sold Krystian Bielik, Laurent Koscielny, Carl Jenkinson, David Ospina and Takuma Asano during the summer window. The departures take their summer transfer income to about £55m. NEW LAWS TO THE GAME OF FOOTBALL

CHANGE 1: Kick-off The current law says the ball must go forward at kick-off and players have to be in their own half. The rule is being changed to allow the ball to go in any direction at kick-off as long as it moves. CHANGE 2: Pre-match red cards Citing a row in the tunnel between Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane before an Arsenal-Manchester United match in 2005, Elleray highlighted how they could not have been sent off in the event of a full-scale fight. The laws were written at a time before it was customary for teams to line up next to each other in the tunnel before kick-off. In future referees will be able to punish red-card offences any time after the pre-match inspection. Elleray: “[Fighting players] would be banned from playing the match but both teams would still start with 11 because they would be able to use one of the named substitutes.
