Jordan Adeoti |
Memories are bound to come alive about the days of
Razak Omotoyossi and Moussa Latounji in Benin Republic’s national team, as The
Squirrels will this month again roll out Nigerian-born defender, Jordan Adeoti.
Footballlive.ng learnt that Adeoti,
who originally hails from Benin’s east neighbours, Nigeria, is still relevant
at an advanced age, as their French coach, Michel Dussuyer has gone back to his
country to include the AJ Auxerre hard-tackling central defender in his squad.
Adeoti is making waves at the team
that gave former Super Eagles defender, Taribo West his breakthrough in Europe
and all expectations are high that his invitation to the Beninnoise team will
boost his career.
He will now join Dussuyer’s team
alongside four uncapped players in a 23-man roster for their decisive 2019
Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at home in Cotonou on March 22, against their
western neighbours, Togo.
Born in France, 29-year-old Adéoti
has played for Colomiers, Laval and Caen, where he spent three seasons, before
moving on a free transfer to Auxerre in June 2017, and made his international
debut in 2012.
Joining Adeoti are former France
youth international Yannick Aguémon, midfielder Rodrigue Kossi, locally-based
Cherif Dine Kakpo and Patrick Sèdjamè, but Stéphane Sessegnon, Sessi D’Almeida
and Mickaël Poté are all suspended for the last Group D encounter.
Huddersfield forward Steve Mounié is
included and Adeoti leads a cast of nine France-based players named by
Dussuyer, whose side held Togo to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture back
in September.
For this month’s game, they need a
draw to book their place at Egypt 2019, while the visitors know that only
victory will help them achieve qualification for a ninth appearance in the
tournament.
Dussuyer’s wards must also note that,
while group leaders Algeria have already qualified, their opponents, Gambia
still have hopes of qualifying.
