Egypt national team assistant coach, Michel Salgado, has stated
that the Super Eagles are favourites to go far in competing for the title at the
2019 AFCON in their country.
Salgado agrees
with the head coach Javier Aguirre submission that the Pharaohs’ 1-0 loss to
the Super Eagles in Tuesday’s international friendly match in Asaba was a good
test for them.
Paul Onuachu
grabbed the match winner for the Super Eagles eight seconds into the game to
record their first win over Egypt in 29 years.
“Nigeria are one of the strongest African teams, and they are
favourites to go far in the African Cup of Nations,” Salgado told OnSport, an
Egyptian online media outlet.
“The game
against Nigeria was a tough test and a huge challenge for us. It was a chance
for the new and young players to prove they deserve the chance to play for the
national team.”
Egypt, seven-time
winners of the Africa Cup of Nations, will be gunning for their eighth title on
home soil when the tournament holds from June 13 to July 15 2019.
