Burkina Faso will chase qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations when they host Mauritania at Stade du 4 Aout in Ouagadougou on Friday, 22 March, kick-off at 19h00 CAT.

Burkina Faso come into the match with a chance of securing their 12th AFCON appearance, though their fate is not in their own hands.

The Stallions must defeat Mauritania, who have already qualified and hope that already-eliminated Botswana avoid defeat in a concurrent Group I game against Angola in Francistown – only this combination of results will see the Burkinabe seal a place at Egypt 2019.

Burkina Faso coach Paulo Duarte has expressed confidence that his team will get the job done, as he looks to star players such as Betrtand Traore, Steeve Yago and Aristide Bance for inspiration.

Al Murabitun, meanwhile, travel to Ouagadougou safe in the knowledge that a first-ever appearance at the AFCON finals has already been secured, following a campaign in which they have taken 12 points from a possible 15.

Coach Corentin Martins was recently rewarded with a new contract by the country’s Football Association and his team heads into this match (and a subsequent friendly against Ghana) full of self belief and purpose.

The first Group I match between these teams was played in Nouakchott in September 2018 and saw Mauritania triumph 2-0, with goals from Ismael Diakite and Khassa Camara.

The match in Ouagadougou will be refereed by DR Congo official Jean-Jacques Ndala Ngambo.
