ARE THEY REALLY COMMITTED?

Boko Haram – People committed to the propagation of prophet’s teaching and jihad. The activities of the dreaded Jama’atul Ahlis Sunna Wal Lidda’awati Wal Jihad sect, also known as Boko Haram in the northern part of Nigeria needs no re – echoing.
Also, the activities of the Nigerian central government to subdue them through the Joint Task Force (JTF) has produced considerable impact and commendation, with the sect also aware of the JTF’s backing of the government for ammunitions, might and will to restore peace back in the affected places.
The activities of the sect which many believed does not hold much water began as something that will go down or subside very soon, with many referring to them as one of those many splinter groups that spring up in the country often.
The boko haram sect began their operation from Maiduguri using bow and poisoned arrows, but has now graduated to the use of sophisticated weapons and explosive to kill and to destroy government facilities, all in the name of prophetic teachings.
Book Haram by its name means “western education is a sacrilege or a sin”.
The sect is opposed to man – made law, western education, etc had their own bias for supporting establishment of sharia law across the length and breadth of this nation. What about our freedom of association in the constitution?
The sect also wanted the nation’s government to be Islamised.
Recently, a 72hours ultimatum was issued by the jihadist sect for all southerners and Christians to leave the north or face the consequence.
But one will want to ask some salient questions such as:
Are there no Christian northerners?
Will these Christian northerners become a slave or a refugee in their fathers land?
Will these Christian northerners abandon their homestead, heritage all in the name of jihadist sect?
Do you need to kill, maim and destroy to preach or propagate the teachings of the holy prophet Mohammed (SAW) and the holy Quran?
Can a house divide against itself stand?
These questions bring to fore the group’s publicly extolling of its ideology despite its founder and former leader Muhammed Yusuf being highly educated and drove a Mercedes Benz before his death.
Many Muslim clerics, scholars and leaders in the north and south of the nation have voiced the sect does not represent Islam, that the religion is of peace and not of violence and crime in any form.
Dr Babangida Aliyu, governor of Niger state confirmed the statement above saying “the sect never represented Islamic virtues”.
Destructive activities of Boko Haram spanned across prison break in Bauchi state, in Adamawa state and recently in Kogi state where 119 inmates were set free and one prison warder was killed., destruction of government facilities and infrastructures.
The sect’s dastardly act also lead to forceful close of schools across the north, from primary to tertiary. Bombing of the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, the UN building also in Abuja. And recently the Christmas day Madalla bombing in Niger state.
According to the U. S. African command (AFRICOM), the group may be affiliated or have association with the Al – Shabab of Somalia and the Al – Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
Meanwhile, Christian leaders issued a statement where they said “Christians may be forced to protect themselves (lives and properties) the way they can if government security is unreliable (paraphrase).
Hopefully, this new method of preaching and propagating prophetic teachings and religion won’t last long before it is nibbed.
